Weyerhaeuser automates purchasing to streamline process
By Staff -- Purchasing, 3/23/2000
The Weyerhaeuser Co., one of the largest integrated forest products companies, is working with Commerce One and Weyerhauser suppliers to automate the entire purchasing process for indirect goods and services.
"We expect all of our key suppliers of MRO goods and services will be on board with the MarketSite platform over the next 12 to 18 months," says Rosemary Mattick, vice president of Weyerhaeuser's procurement and supply management organization. "Our aim is to use automated procurement tools to drive waste out of the system while improving the value received by our operating sites. We want to use technology to streamline our purchasing process and reduce costs."
After completion of a pilot using BuySite 5.0, Commerce One's electronic procurement application, Weyerhaeuser is currently upgrading to BuySite 6.0. The company is also using Commerce One's MarketSite Global Trading Portal, the U.S. portal for the exchanging of goods and services among businesses worldwide.
"We evaluated several business e-commerce application providers and Commerce One's approach was consistent with our procurement and strategic direction and was appropriate for standardizing our business processes," says Scott Walker, director, finance, procurement and supply management for Weyerhaeuser.
