Suppliers provide one-stop shopping, more services
By Albert Genna -- Purchasing, 7/15/1999
"One-stop shopping" increasingly is the name of the game for bulk container purchasers. Large container suppliers, such as those who offer a range of products and services, aim to make buying bulk packaging a one-source purchase to the greatest degree possible. But smaller suppliers continue to target specialized markets with niche products and to work to develop unique advances in new products.Across the bulk packaging industry, suppliers are also increasing the kinds of services offered to customers. Suppliers have been jockeying for position, as a general consolidation of many container suppliers has occurred, and there remains fierce competition from some lower-priced imported containers. With buyers looking for continued reductions in their shipping and storage costs, many container suppliers are offering programs that go as far as essentially taking over a customer's entire container management function.
In the following pages buyers of bulk containers can read about the latest trends and product advances in all major types of bulk packaging: intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), drums (steel, plastics, and fiber), and bulk bags.
