Sales outlook, automotive
By Staff -- Purchasing, 7/15/1999
Car makers worldwide will sell about 36 million units this year, about the same as last year, according to the latest World Car Industry Forecast by Standard & Poor's DRI. The analysts raised their forecast after March (when they predicted a decline) after witnessing stronger-than-expected car sales in first quarter 1999. Now they expect West European car sales to rise at least 1.1% this year, while North American car sales are expected to gain about 1%. Asian markets are expected to recover, with sales rising about 4%, the DRI report says. But sales in East Europe and Latin America are expected to shrink.
