Market outlook, regional jets
By Staff -- Purchasing, 7/15/1999
Small jet makers are preparing for a sales boom as smaller producers rush to meet soaring demand for quieter, faster alternatives to turboprops. "The floodgates are opening, the growth will be phenomenal," says Richard Aboulafia, director of aviation at Teal Group, in Fairfax, Va. Suppliers are Embraer of Brazil; Fairchild Dornier, a U.S.-German company, and Bombardier of Canada. Bombardier and Embraer each forecast a market for about 2,500 regional jets in the 70-100-seat category over the next 10 years. Fairchild Aerospace, which controls Fairchild Dornier, is even more optimistic, predicting demand for about 3,000 regional jets.
