Price outlook, LME aluminum

Jean-Pierre Rodier, chairman of aluminum producer Pechiney, expects London Metal Exchange ingot prices to average just $1,300/metric ton (59¢/lb) this year. Excess supply and uneven buying trends will make it difficult, he says, for the metal to attain the 1998 average of $1,380/tonne (63¢/lb).
