Update, consumer price index

Financial markets greeted with exuberance news that consumer price inflation had backed down in May (overall CPI was flat, core rate gained just 0.1%) after posting an alarming 0.7% increase in April. The gasoline component plunged 2.7% after seasonal adjustment. Declines were also noted in apparel, transportation, education, and communication indexes.
