Exxon Corp., the largest U.S. oil company, and Dow Chemical Co., the No. 2 U.S. chemicals company, agreed to settle lawsuits alleging each company had infringed upon the other's metallocene technology for plastics. The disputed technology improves the quality of polyethylene plastics. The settlement also applies to Univation Technologies, a joint venture between Exxon and Union Carbide Corp.
