Van Leer to merge with Huhtamaki Oyj

Container giant Van Leer will merge with rival European packaging firm Huhtamaki Oyj, creating a global specialty packaging group. Huhtamaki issued a public offer for all issued and outstanding shares in Van Leer from August 27 to September 27, 1999.
