Granges eyes profiles
By Staff -- Purchasing, 10/7/1999
The current global consolidation in the aluminum industry hopefully will provide opportunities for Swedish aluminum producer Granges to buy profile (i.e., extruded shape) facilities worldwide, according to CEO Staffan Bohman. Specifically, he is hoping the three-way merger of Alcan Aluminum of Canada, Pechiney of France, and Alusuisse-Lonza Holding of Switzerland will lead to the sale of their aluminum profiles businesses. "We would be quite interested to discuss such a deal," Bohman says. He also thinks the Reynolds Metals buyout by Alcoa "could open up a sale of excess profile operations in Europe."
