By Staff -- Purchasing, 10/7/1999

The JIT II Education & Research Center announced that a new scholarship is available for students studying purchasing or sales.

The first JIT II scholarship for $5,000 is named in honor of Damodar Ratha, chairman of Peerless Fabrikkerne, Bombay, India, for his significant donation. Funding also was received from the JIT II Education & Research Center itself, which was established in 1997 by Sherwin Greenblatt, president of bose Corp., to meet requests for JIT II information and benchmarking. Other scholarships will be announced as funds become available.

Purchasing Magazine will administer the scholarships, with assistance from the Scholarship Committee, which comprises Professor Gabriel Bitran, deputy dean, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School; Jack O'Connor, vice president and publisher, Purchasing Magazine; Richard Pieranunzi, president, STMicroelectronics; Damodar Ratha, chairman, Peerless Fabrikkerne; Sam Laufer, president, nabs Inc.; and George Krauter, executive vice president, ISA Corp.

Anyone wishing to apply for the scholarship should mail a letter that states why they should be chosen and identifies their school and course of study to: The JIT II Scholarship Committee, C/O Purchasing Magazine, Attn: Jack O'Connor, Publisher, 275 Washington St., Newton, MA 02458. Applications will be accepted until Dec. 31, 1999. The scholarship recipient will be notified by March 21, 2000; funds will be paid for the school year that begins in 2000.
