The Software & Information Industry Assn. has issued a "Buyer Beware" advisory to buyers making purchases of software through online auctions.

By Staff -- Purchasing, 11/4/1999

The Software & Information Industry Assn. has issued a "Buyer Beware" advisory to buyers making purchases of software through online auctions. Results of a survey the group conducted of software products available through the sites show buyers face a 60% possibility that what they are purchasing is not legitimate software. "They will discover they have been ripped off when this illegitimate software is finally received," says Peter Beruk, vice president of Anti-Piracy programs for siia. The buyer will be left with software that may not work, that could be infected with a virus, is out of date, and will receive little or no support from its publisher.
