Carrier helps customer out of very tight spot
By Staff -- Purchasing, 11/18/1999
Sometimes strong buyer/supplier relationships are created from emergency situations.Such as the case when Gerber Technologies of Tolland, Conn., was ready to ship a large textile machine to a customer. Gerber's facility is set up such that only one machine can be shipped at a time, due to the large size of the machines. Once a machine is ready to be shipped, it's imperative that it be shipped immediately, to enable Gerber to continue production. Any delay in a scheduled pickup can mess up the whole production schedule.
One Monday morning, Gerber was ready to ship a large textile machine, which was sitting on their dock waiting to be picked up. No pickup occurred on Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday. On Thursday afternoon, Gerber called Bulk Connection, a full-service transportation brokerage carrier. On Friday morning at 5:30 a.m., Bulk Connection had a truck at Gerber's facility, and Gerber finally was ready to begin production on the next machine.
Bulk Connection's rapid response was the beginning of a close relationship with Gerber, which has recommended Bulk Connection to customers with shipping challenges.
