Purchasing salutes the best suppliers
By Staff -- Purchasing, 11/18/1999
In this special issue of Purchasing Magazine, purchasing professionals and the companies at which they work are given an opportunity to pay tribute to suppliers that perform above and beyond the expectations of their customers.Over the years, relationships between industrial buyers and sellers have continuously evolved. What once were primarily adversarial relationships have blossomed--in the best cases, that is--into mutually beneficial ones that also lay the groundwork for future continuous improvement for both parties. What once were exclusively short-term relationships based on price have often turned into long-term commitments in which dividing lines between buyers and sellers have become quite blurred. Essentially, industrial purchasers and their suppliers have realized that they're part of the same supply chain, and they must work together to prosper. The alternative is that they both lose.
Today, more and more purchasing departments are formally recognizing their top suppliers with annual award ceremonies, dinners, and other events. Such efforts, we're told, can go a long way toward helping purchasing maintain top supplier performance, as well as elevate performance levels of other suppliers.
In the pages that follow, companies have taken advantage of the chance to publicly recognize suppliers whose performance separates them from the pack. The editors of Purchasing Magazine congratulate suppliers that have won "best-in-class" awards this year. We also applaud those purchasing departments that have invested the time, energy, and other resources to work with suppliers in an effort to continually raise the performance bar.
