Remember that uptick in electronics leadtimes last November? It looked like it might be a harbinger of tightening supplies. Well, forget about it. Apparently, there was some seasonal tightening before the holidays. PURCHASING's current report shows that most leadtimes are drifting again. Eighteen rose, while nineteen dropped and four showed no change. Most remain well below their levels of six months ago. For example, leadtimes for 32 Mb flash are 4.5 weeks, compared to 6.9 weeks in August of last year. Order-to-delivery times for tantalum capacitors are 5.9 weeks versus 7.4 weeks last August. One big exception: leadtimes for 16 Mb DRAM are 6.4 weeks, up from 4.4 weeks.
