Intel's MPU share drops

By Staff -- Purchasing, 2/21/2002

Intel is still the king of the PC microprocessor hill, but AMD took away about four points of market share from Intel in 2001, according to Mercury Research.

AMD now has about 20% of the PC microprocessor market and Intel has 78.7%. In 2001, Intel had 82.2% of the market. The rest of the market belongs to Via Technologies and Transmeta.

Intel had strong shipments of Pentium 4 and Celeron processors in the fourth quarter.
