Minolta engineers digital copier for sharper images

By Staff -- Purchasing, 2/21/2002

Minolta engineered its new DIALTA Di650 digital printer/copier/scanner for sharper image quality, faster output and more powerful options to support high copy and print volumes.

The Di650 has applications in offices that have large volume copying and printing needs, central reprographics departments and print-for-pay businesses.

The Di650 is "packed with productivity-enhancing features and finishing options to quickly complete complicated copying and printing tasks with a minimum of human intervention," says Bud Murphy, executive vice president and general manager for Minolta's Business Products Group. Copier functions include:

  • The Minolta DIALTA Di650 offers a multi-copy speed of 65 cpm (copies per minute) with true 600 x 600 dpi (dots per inch) output. The touch screen control panel has fewer menu layers for more user-friendly, streamlined operation.
  • "Polymerized toner" technology keeps copied documents looking like first-generation documents. In addition, the DIALTAS auto image mode automatically optimizes image quality for documents with both text and photos.
  • The Di650 has a maximum 6,600 sheet paper capacity and supports paper sizes to 12 in x 18 in for full-bleed 11 in x 17 in images.
  • The DIALTA Di650 has numerous copying features designed to streamline workflow and speed up document reproduction. These include: book copy, booklet pagination, border erase, cover insertion, image rotation, intelligent job building, job memory and job recall.
  • The Di650 offers a range of optional finishing features including multiple position stapling, saddle stitching, three-hole punching and cover insertion.

Printing and scanning capabilities include:

  • The Di650 can be configured as a 65 ppm PLC6 or Adobe PostScript 3 network printer with the addition of the Pi6500 Pro print controller, based upon Fiery technology.
  • The Pi6500 Pro supports the Di650 running at full rated speed due in part to its Intel Celeron 366 MHz processor and 64 MB of RAM Standard. In addition, all Di650 finishing features may be enabled from the print driver.
  • The Pi6500 Pro has scan-to-HDD and TWAIN scanning capabilities that will scan documents at 65 ppm. To reduce scan file size, the P16500 Pro uses G4 compression technology to make it easier to store and distribute files.

The DIALTA Di650 is equipped with PageScope and PageScope Light, Minolta's Web-based network management utilities that works through virtually any Web browser. By entering the print controller's URL, administrators and end users have remote access to DIALTA controls. These controls can be used to monitor printer status and to set some of the printer functions through the Web browser.
