- Ariba has integrated vPayment, an electronic settlement tool, into its Ariba Supplier Network. The new payment option, supported by GE's Corporate Payment Services unit, is expected to enable Ariba Buyer customers to further automate, expedite and control their spend management processes. It's also expected to help reduce processing time and costs, and maximize collaboration with a global network of trading partners.
- MRO Purchasing Best Practices, PURCHASING magazine's newest book, is available at the bookstore at www.purchasing.com. The book, a compilation of the magazine's best stories on maintenance, repair, and operations purchasing, has sections on industrial distribution, integrated supply, strategic sourcing, e-procurement and purchasing cards.
- MRO buyers: Check out two sessions of PURCHASING magazine's Global Procurement Conference—"Cutting Costs of Paying Suppliers," which includes a software demo by Michael O'Malley of GE Corporate Payment Services, and "Scale Up: Push Indirect Sourcing to the Global Level". The online conference, which was held this spring, is now available free on demand at www.globalprocurement.purchasing.com.
- VWR International has appointed James W. Rogers to the additional post of chief executive officer. He replaces Walter W. Zywottek who has assumed an executive board post with Merck. Rogers is currently chairman of the board of VWR International.
- The Industrial Supply Association has chosen Purdue University senior Lindsay C. Tack as the second recipient of the Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship. Created in 2003 as a memorial to the former I.D.A. executive vice president, the scholarship will be awarded each year to a rising senior in a qualified undergraduate industrial distribution program.
