- Hormel Foods presents its Spirit of Excellence award for 2004 to Motion Industries for attaining excellence in service and customer satisfaction. The recognition is based on high performance in delivery, administrative proficiency, quality of products and customer service. To receive the award, a supplier must achieve a 96% or higher overall rating for the past six months. Motion Industries achieved a score of 97.4%.
- Applied Industrial Technologies has acquired the assets of Spencer Industries, a regional fluid power distributor headquartered in Kent, Wash. Applied acquired the business from Wajax Income Fund of Toronto, Ontario. Spencer will operate as a subsidiary of Applied under the name of Spencer Fluid Power.
- Graybar has entered into a significant contract with Premier Purchasing Partners, one of the largest group purchasing organizations in the healthcare industry. Graybar estimates the three-year agreement to be valued "at approximately $3 million annually with considerable growth potential as additional Premier sites participate and implementation is completed." Graybar's more than 250 nationwide distribution facilities will serve Premier's members at more than 1,400 hospitals and other healthcare sites.
- Airgas has completed its fifth acquisition of fiscal 2006. The distributor of packaged gases and related supplies has acquired the assets and operations of Associated Welding Products, an industrial gas and welding supply distributor with one location in Portland, Ore. The location will be integrated into Airgas Nor Pac, which is based in Vancouver, Wash., and one of 13 regional companies within Airgas.
