Software Updates

Staff -- Purchasing, 11/3/2005

  • Oracle released the PeopleSoft Enterprise Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) 8.9 and PeopleSoft Enterprise Supply Chain Management (SCM) 8.9. This new release represents a launching plan for Oracle Project Fusion, providing customers with new functionality and a clear path to the next generation of enterprise applications. Users will benefit from PeopleSoft SRM 8.9 in three ways. First, they will be able to exploit more savings opportunities by using sourcing optimization and total cost modeling to source from suppliers that provide the best combination of cost, quality, risk, and innovation. Second, customers can improve bottom-line results by converting negotiated savings into realized savings with Supplier Contract Management. Finally, customers are able to maximize business process effectiveness by leveraging built-in procurement best practices, enjoying greater control over services spending and broader adoption via simplified requisitioning.
  • Supply chain software firm GT Nexus has released its Global Cost Control management system, which features capture, reporting and analysis of real-time sourcing and logistics costs as they are incurred. The new system provides a before and after comparison of scenarios to help analyze various sourcing options.
  • Verticalnet recently unveiled version 5.2 of its XE Supply Management Suite of tools. More than 20 customers went live on the new suite simultaneously. Key benefits of the new suite include: improved project management and status exception highlighting; improved supplier performance management capabilities including supplier self-reporting; and total cost of ownership modeling for bidding worksheets.
  • Looking for shortcuts on the way to supply base risk mitigation? Open Ratings has identified several tenets to best practices in risk management for the supply base. First, executive level visibility to exposure and dependency is key; secondly, continuous monitoring of all suppliers is important, including tier 2 or 3 suppliers; the third tenet is complete, accurate, forward-looking supplier information; and lastly is having organizational infrastructure that is empowered to act upon decisions and recommendations.
  • FuelQuest has released version 3.5 of its Fuel Management System, which includes upgrades to its sourcing capabilities and voice-response unit capabilities, which enables remote sites to call in their inventory and sales data for replenishment via touch-tone phones.
