Leadtimes lengthen

Staff -- Purchasing, 11/17/2005

Leadtimes for 26 of 41 electronic components tracked monthly by PURCHASING magazine stretched in October due to rising seasonal end equipment and component demand.

Most passive component, connector and electromechanical device leadtimes stretched in October, while most semiconductor delivery times shrunk.

Pushbutton switches stretched from 5.9 weeks in September to 9.1 weeks in October; d-subminiature connectors went from 6.2 weeks to 9.4 weeks and thick-film chip resistors moved out from 5.1 weeks to 7.3 weeks.

There were some steep drops in semiconductor leadtimes. Sixteen Mbit flash memory leadtimes fell from 9.1 weeks to 4.3 weeks and 246 Kbit SRAMs shrunk from 7.7 weeks to 3.9 weeks.
