Avnet finalizes Memec deal
Avnet has completed its acquisition of Memec, a leading global distributor specializing in semiconductors. Under the acquisition agreement, Memec investors received a total of approximately 24.011 million shares of Avnet common stock plus approximately $64 million of cash. Roy Vallee, Avnet's chairman and chief executive officer, says the acquisition of Memec will enhance Avnet's competitive position in every region of the world. He says by combining Avnet's and Memec's global operations, Avnet will "realize substantial efficiencies in our European, Middle Eastern and African and Americas operations while significantly expanding our resources."
Arrow is Fairchild's best
Fairchild Semiconductor has named Arrow Electronics its Global Distributor of the Year for 2004. Fairchild's scorecard program measures its distributor network on four strategic business elements: demand creation, business-plan performance, operations management and franchise management. In 2004, Arrow was awarded a superior ranking for demand creation in North America and Europe and has since shown strong point-of-sale growth in Asia, a region where Fairchild has double the power semiconductor market share of its nearest competitor.
Nu Horizon inks chip deal
Nu Horizons will carry Cirrus Logic's complete line of analog, mixed signal and embedded integrated circuit products under a new agreement. Cirrus Logic, a supplier of high-performance semiconductors, makes chips for a wide variety of equipment including audio/video receivers, professional and commercial audio equipment, industrial process control, analytical instruments, digital power meters, and seismic systems.
Newark InOne acquires R&R
Newark InOne has purchased the assets of R&R Instrumentation and transferred all of its business and employees to a new division named Newark InOne Services. R&R is a regional distributor of test equipment and panel instruments in Denver. It has calibration labs in the Denver, Phoenix and Nashville areas. Newark InOne's test and measurement offering includes top manufacturers Fluke, Tektronix, Agilent, Rohde & Schwartz, Amprobe, B&K Precision, and Meterman.
SpotComponents signs agreement
SpotComponents, an Internet-based authorized distributor of electronic components, says it is now carrying film capacitors of Arcotronics America. Arcotronics, a division of the Arco-Nissei Group, is one of the world's largest producers of film capacitors and other passive components. The agreement expands distribution for Arcotronics and component selection through SpotComponents. These components are now available on the company's web portal—SpotComponents.com.
