Weyerhaeuser Co. recently named Peter W. Sherland vice president of procurement and transportation. Sherland had served as vice president of transportation and logistics since 2002 and assumed the additional responsibilities following the retirement of Robert W. Boyd, Jr., vice president of procurement and supply management. In his new role, Sherland is responsible for purchasing all company supplies, except fiber, and for the transportation of Weyerhaeuser's products. Sherland continues to report to George H. Weyerhaeuser, senior vice president of technology. Sherland served for seven years as vice president of finance and planning for the pulp, paper and packaging sector and has also managed the company's pension fund investments and led the Investment Evaluation department at Weyerhaeuser.
Freescale Semiconductor named Tom Linton as its vice president and chief procurement officer. He will oversee Freescale's global procurement strategy and key supplier relationships with an emphasis on cost, quality and service. He will be based in Singapore, closer to Freescale's major foundry partners and assembly and test operations. "Tom has extensive experience in global procurement and a keen understanding of the Asia Pacific supply chain market," said Jan Monney, Freescale's senior vice president of business operations. "His understanding of the entire supply chain and relationships with Asian suppliers will be an invaluable asset to Freescale." Linton comes to Freescale from his post as chief procurement officer for Agere. Prior to Agere, Linton spent 20 years at IBM.
John Haydon has been named Nortel's new chief procurement officer. Haydon will relocate to Hong Kong to take charge of Nortel's purchases and supplier relationships, worth about $7 billion annually. Nortel's new CPO worked his way up the ladder, holding increasingly senior management positions over the years in various departments of the company, including manufacturing, field operations, customer service, sales and marketing, and supply management. Most recently, Haydon served as vice president for Nortel's Global Supply Chain organization. "John has brought new levels of collaboration and discipline to supplier selection and management at Nortel," said Joel Hackney, the company's senior vice president of global supply chain and quality, in a press release. "His continued leadership will be critical as we drive Nortel's market position around cost, quality and speed."
Thermal management technologies firm Modine Manufacturing recently named Gregory T. Kinder to the newly created position of vice president of global purchasing. Kinder will report to the executive vice president and CFO Brad Richardson. Kinder has more than 21 years of experience, 19 years of which he spent with Johnson Controls., where he held international assignments in Belgium, Singapore and China. Kinder was most recently vice president of purchasing, Asia Pacific and Japan at Johnson Controls, located in Shanghai, China. He was responsible for $1.8 billion in purchased materials, and for developing regional and global commodity and supplier strategies. The position was originally based in Michigan, but Kinder moved to Shanghai in 2003 to increase exports from Asia to Johnson Controls' worldwide facilities. Before Johnson Controls, Kinder worked at Leggett & Platt in Whittier, Calif.
