Fewer sales needed to make the top 75
Staff -- Purchasing, 4/20/2006
Purchasing's top 75 distribution ranking for 2005, distributors needed slightly fewer sales this year. Distributors needed $3.4 billion in revenue, compared to $4.0 billion in the previous year.
Six new companies made the list this year. These include ACI Electronics, Altex-Mar Electronics, CDM Electronics, Edge Electronics, Garrett Electronics, and Gopher Electronics.
ACI Electronics tallied $38 million in sales, followed by Edge Electronics with $21.8 million in revenues and Gopher Electronics with $16.8 million in sales. Altex-Mar recorded $14.5 million in sales, CDM Electronics reported $9.0 million in revenues, and Garrett Electronics posted $3.4 million in sales.
The top 75 ranking lost five distributors including Memec and California Eastern Labs. Memec was acquired by leading distributor Avnet, while California Eastern Labs, ranked 21, decided not to participate in this year's ranking after many years on the top 75 list. Other distributors that dropped from the ranking include ESCO after its assets were acquired by ICO RALLY in June 2005, Rad Mil-Aero who merged with Astrex, and B.J. Wolfe Enterprises who declined to complete the survey.
