Advanced Semiconductor Engineering takeover under review

By Dave Hannon -- Purchasing, 11/30/2006

Advanced Semiconductor Engineering has received a $5.5 billion buyout offer last week from a consortium of investors headed up by the Carlyle Group but the deal is currently being reviewed by Taiwanese regulators concerned about insider trading issues. According to a Reuters report, the Taiwanese Financial Supervisory Commission is looking into the bid because it was made public before receiving the commission's approval, commission spokeswoman Susan Chang said.

Carlyle Group also headed up an investor buyout of Freescale Semiconductor in September.
