Coal Prices are Soft

U.S. central appalachian coal currently is $40.50/ton, 28% from a year ago on high coal inventories and increased coal-production levels. Merrill Lynch analyst David Lipschitz expects "2007 coal prices will remain weak for the first half of the year before recovering during the summer."
