Emptoris adds service and enhances others to help users “go the extra mile”

New offering focuses on more complex spend categories

By Susan Avery -- Purchasing, 4/18/2007 8:53:00 AM

Emptoris, a provider of supply and contract management software, today has announced it is launching a new service while also enhancing its spend analysis and contract management offerings.

The company developed its new offering, Advanced Sourcing Service, for categories of spend considered more complex for companies to purchase. These include transportation, packaging, print and fleet vehicles.

“At first, companies tend to go after categories of spend that offer quick opportunities for savings," Kevin Potts, vice president of marketing at Emptoris in Burlington, Mass. recently told Purchasing. “These other categories, which can represent up to $100 million annually, are negotiated less frequently by purchasing because of the complexity of the event. These include the number of bids and attributes which factor into the sourcing decision. The categories however, often are negotiated quickly around some market change which can pose risks for buyers.” He points to recent changes in the transportation market as an example.

Potts says Emptoris is introducing its new Advanced Sourcing Service in response to customer demand for help with meeting challenges surrounding these buys. Advanced Sourcing Service provides users with advanced analytics capabilities, e-sourcing category expertise, a highly scalable, high-availability infrastructure and event management services.

At the same time, Emptoris has enhanced its spend analysis and contract management tools. New capabilities of the Emptoris Spend Analyzer module center around identifying savings opportunities. These include a new feature that allows users to pose questions to the module;micro-analysis, which allows users to interactively drill into and analyze opportunities in a relevant context; and adoption and usage tracking.

New capabilities of Emptoris Contracts Management help users to better manage global agreements. These include multi-lingual user interface and support, which is available in 10 different languages; multi-locale contracts, which allows users to maintain one contract in multiple languages, supporting local regulations; and global business protocol which allows users to view and monitor global contracts with local formats for currency, weights and measures and dates and times.

Emptoris in November released an update to its spend analysis tool.
