Merck salutes 12 as outstanding suppliers

Their commitment and efforts to build strategic relationships have earned 12 suppliers special awards from pharmaceuticals manufacturer Merck & Co.
The suppliers received their honors at a ceremony at the company's Whitehouse Station, N.J. headquarters.
Richard Spoor, vice president of global procurement, was the master of ceremonies at the event, which also included speeches by Merck President and CEO Richard T. Clark; Manufacturing Division President Willie Deese; Research Laboratories Senior Vice President John King; and Human Health Division President Tyrone Edwards.
Spoor said that Merck is working hard to drive cost effectiveness and efficiencies, supplier diversity and to build preferred supplier relationships.
"We meet with them two-to-four times a year in our supplier value-management program and work with them on continuous improvement," says Mark Scheftel, senior director of procurement.
The suppliers who were honored were:
Progressive Business Solutions, Inc. and Prudential Real Estate and Relocation Services, for supplier diversity.
DraftFCB/Initiative Media; Laboratory Corp. of America; PHH Arval; WuXi Pharmatech Co.; and SCA Packaging North America, for outstanding strategic collaboration.
Penske Logistics; Fabbrica Italiana Sintetici; General Motors; and Sigma Aldrich, for sector operational achievement.
And Takasago International Corp. for outstanding performance improvement.
