Essar on Spending Spree

India's Essar global announced buys in U.S. and Canada to dramatically increase its presence in the North American steel market. First on April 16 Essar said it plans to buy Canada's Algoma Steel for $1.6 billion. Two days later it announced plans to buy Minnesota Steel, also for $1.6 billion.
