Stelco Inc. announced it will transfer all hot-strip processing to its Lake Erie mill in Nanticoke, Ontario, and shut the 56-inch hot strip mill at its Hamilton, Ont., operations. Modernization has increased the Lake Erie hot-strip mill's annual capacity to 3.7 million tons from 3 million tons.
U.S. Steel has entered into a definitive agreement with South Korean steelmakers Posco and SeAH Steel to create a spiral-welded tubular manufacturing facility capable of making 300,000 net tons/year of products in the 24- to 64-inch outside diameter range. The new facility, which will be called United Spiral Pipe, will be built in South Korea.
Ryerson is consolidating two of its western New York processing and distribution centers by closing its Buffalo site and moving operations to a facility in nearby Lancaster. Ryerson acquired Lancaster Steel last year and is modifying the larger and newer facility to accommodate the Buffalo operations.
- The new Marmon/Keystone service center in Little Chute, Wis., has opened as a satellite of the firm's Boling-brook, Ill., regional center. The facility is stocking a wide range of carbon and stainless steel and aluminum tubular products plus stainless bar.
Victory Tube of Cleveland, which also operates a mechanical and structural steel tubulars service center in Hebron, Ky., has been purchased by Marmon/Keystone.
