Ocean carriers predict record demand in Pacific

China's demand for logistics remains story

By Dave Hannon -- Purchasing, 5/1/2007 12:38:00 PM

The members of the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement are predicting record container volumes in the Pacific Ocean this year.

According to a recent Reuters article, the TSA forecasts a lull in early May due to national holidays in China and Japan to be followed by a record peak season, requiring additional vessel capacity. TSA forecasts 9-10% Asia-U.S. cargo growth for 2007 and slightly higher growth in 2008 as trade between U.S. and Asia continues to explode.

Ocean freight rates are at all-time highs and logistics market watchers continue to report demand for ocean freight remains strong.
