Wallboard demand has fallen by 10% this year as new-home construction has tanked. Wallboard's average first-quarter selling price—$164.12/1,000 square feet—was 9% below its average price for all of 2006. Soft wallboard sales and pricing are expected to continue as spring building permits are at a 17-year low.
