Aluminum Buys Expanding

Global aluminum demand will grow by 9.4% this year, the equivalent of 3.2 million metric tons of primary ingot, forecasts CRU Group analyst Paul Robinson. World aluminum purchasing expanded by 8% in 2006; prices are up but it's still cheaper than steel or copper. So, he sees strong growth this year in China, Europe and Latin America, which is offsetting reduced consumption in the U.S. and Canada.
