WHAT IT MEANS: A 99.999% pure Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin has begun trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Each coin weighs 100 kilograms. The coins were made in Ottawa and represent the highest achievement in gold purity.

WHAT IT MEANS: “We are impressed that copper demand has rebounded in 2007, that year-to-date prices recovered and that certain deepening mines have seen tough productivity,” says Prudential Group in boosting its forecast from $2.75.

WHAT IT MEANS: A relative flattening of natural gas prices is likely to allow aluminum cost to slide and ingot prices to moderate somewhat next year, says Wachovia economist Jason Schenker after reaching $1.28/lb in 2007.
