Celanese Outage Continues

Celanese hopes to restart its 1.2 million metric ton/year Clear Lake, Texas, acetic acid plant by mid-July. Initial attempts failed and forced the Dallas-based company to extend its force majeure on acetic acid, acetic anhydride, vinyl acetate monomer and acetate esters—and to expand its inability to declare additional acetyl derivatives undeliverable. The Texas plant, the largest of its kind, was shut in May because of a rector leak.
