A Major Storm in Australia shut down the world's biggest port for exports of thermal coal shipments in mid-June. With the port of Newcastle shut down, mining giants BHP Billiton, Xstrata and Rio Tinto's Coal and Allied Industries all declared force majeure on thermal coal shipments, tightening supply.
