China to Limit Exports

In an effort to narrow its massive $112.5 billion trade surplus and reduce environmental damage, China announced in July it will curb exports of cheap labor-intensive products to force its manufacturers into focusing on higher-quality goods. "Our calculation shows that the impact will force exporters to increase value to their products and upgrade their technology," said Wang Qinhua of China's Ministry of Commerce.
