China May Cut Copper
By Staff -- Purchasing, 8/16/2007
Some of China's major copper smelters may cut production in the second half, not because of decreasing demand, but due to rising costs of raw materials and processing. Bloomberg reports that nine Chinese smelters discussed output reductions of 10–15% at a meeting in July, which could force China to import more copper to meet its massive demand. China's copper concentrate imports gained 27% in the first half.
