According to Purchasing's latest monthly buyer survey, prices for ceramic chip capacitors are on the rise. Almost one-quarter of buyers polled reported price hikes for the components in July, more than double the percentage that reported hikes in June. By comparison, only 10% of buyers reported price hikes for tantalum caps. Leadtimes for ceramic caps are also way out, averaging more than 13 weeks in July, a significant increase from previous months, which may explain why buyers are seeing prices trend up.
