Alcoa Declares Force Majeure

Alcoa declared force majeure on alumina after a 1.4 million metric ton/year Jamalco alumina refinery in Jamaica remains closed while its owners assess damage caused by Hurricane Dean. The world aluminum market has hardly blinked, however, because United Company Rusal of Moscow restarted its Alpart and Windalco alumina refineries in Jamaica that had suspended operations ahead of the hurricane.
