Economists at the Congressional Budget Office say the U.S. economy is likely to remain sound. But, they add that the collapsed housing market and recent financial and credit disruptions may dent the rate of growth. Near-term economic projections are "subject to significant uncertainty, particularly about how problems experienced by home mortgage lenders will affect the broader availability of credit and the economy as a whole," according to the CBO, which serves as Congress' nonpartisan budget scorekeeper.
