Titanium: Boeing inks $900 million supply agreement with RTI Metals

By Tom Stundza -- Purchasing, 12/13/2007

Boeing has signed a 10-year, $900 million contract to purchase extruded, welded and fully machined structural titanium components for the 787 Dreamliner from RTI International Metals of Niles, Ohio. RTI is a producer of titanium mill products and fabricated metal components. The company's CEO, Dawne Hickton, says the contract "deepens RTI's long-term participation in the 787 program and is another step forward in the company's long-term strategy to be a fully-integrated supplier of higher value-added products and services." The 2008–2017 contract has RTI acting as lead integrator on the PAX Floor Pi-Box Seat Track program through its fabrication and distribution group, which has facilities in Houston and Montreal. The group's numerous supply chain partners will help produce finished titanium components used for the seat tracks in the floor structure of the Boeing 787.
