Sumitomo may expand Middle East JV

Japanese chemical firm Sumitomo Chemical Co. is in talks with Saudi Aramco to expand its existing petrochemical joint venture. The two firms have a new plant due online in late 2008 that will produce optical materials and value-added resins to supply China, the Middle East and Europe. They are in talks to build a new plant in Saudi Arabia for compound resin for digital consumer electronics and automobiles as early as 2012, according to reports.
