Suppliers hike prices for flame retardantsSpecialty chemicals makers Albemarle Corp. and Chemtura both said they will increase the prices for flame retardants.
Chemtura will raise its Firemaster flame retardants by 9¢/lb in addition to other price increases for plasticizers and heat stabilizers effective in January.
Albermale will raise the price of its Pyro-Chek 68PB flame-retardant products by 25% effective Jan. 1. The announcement was only a week after Albemarle said it will raise global prices of its Ethanox lubricant and fuel antioxidants by 80¢ to $2.10/Kg as contracts allow. "This price increase comes as a result of continuing increases in crude oil costs and the associated petrochemical derivatives from which we make many of our products," said John McChesney, Albemarle antioxidants global business manager.
Solutia raises resin pricesSolutia is pushing a 10¢/lb increase on the price of its Vydyne polyamide 66 resin and Ascend polymer in North America.
Eastman increases acetylsEastman Chemical said it plans to increase prices for acetic acid by 6¢/lb and acetic anhydride 8¢/lb.
