11-Month Chip Sales Up 2.8%

By Staff -- Purchasing, 1/17/2008

Worldwide sales of microprocessors were up 2.3% in November, boosted by strong demand for consumer products, the Semiconductor Industry Association reports. Chip sales rose to $23.1 billion in the month, up from $22.5 billion in November 2006, the SIA says. Year-to-date chip sales were at $231 billion, up 2.8% from $225 billion for the year-ago period. SIA President George Scalise says chip sales were boosted by robust demand for consumer items such as cell phones, digital cameras, and LCD television sets during the holiday season.
