Railroads will face pressure to merge

The CEO of Canada's biggest railroad said recently that the largest U.S. railroads would face intense shareholder pressure to merge in the coming years as they struggle to increase capacity and volumes. "There's going to be a large transaction in the next five to six years," Hunter Harrison, CEO of Canadian National Railway said in a recent interview with Bloomberg, adding that his company won't be involved in any major deals while he's at the helm.
