WHAT IT MEANS: With the exception of energy and transportation, buyers in Purchasing's monthly survey are most concerned about plastic resin prices. And 52% of buyers predict price increases for molded plastics.

WHAT IT MEANS: A deadly fire Dec. 21 at the Mitsubishi Chemical ethylene plant took 516,000 metric tons of ethylene capacity offline, almost 12% of Japan's capacity. The shutdown cut ethylene production 3.9% in December alone.
