WHAT IT MEANS: While that's down from the same poll a year ago, it does indicate the shippers feel the LTL trucking market is a long way from tightening up again. Sixty-two percent reported LTL overcapacity in the fourth quarter of 2007.

WHAT IT MEANS: Con-way turned back the speed governors on its fleet from 65 MPH to 62 in an effort to reduce its diesel fuel consumption by 3.2 million gallons.

WHAT IT MEANS: Higher fuel surcharges for shippers and higher costs for the already struggling trucking carrier base. Buyers should keep in close contact with their smaller carriers about how they're managing their fuel costs today.
