MSC kicks off eco-friendly initiative on Earth Day

The distributor offers new cleaning line.

MSC Industrial Direct Co. has launched an eco-friendly initiative on Earth Day, which has several components.

One is the identification of environmentally friendly items within several of MSC’s key product categories by tagging them with a new icon. MSC expects that calling these items out in both print and electronic media will make it easier for customers to find and shop for environmentally friendly responsible products.

In response to a trend of green cleaning in facilities, MSC offers an eco-friendly line of janitorial products under the Natures Solution brand name. Natures Solution is MSC’s exclusive brand of cleaners. The Natures Solution mission is: Create clean green products that will not harm the environment, will out perform traditional cleaners and are cost competitive.

The active ingredient in Natures Solution is a bio-organic catalyst which is 100% natural. The products are non-toxic, non-irritating, non-caustic, non-corrosive, non-allergenic, bacteria free, phosphate free and biodegradable. The cleaning technology leaves no toxic chemical by-products or nutrients that cause pathogenic growth.

The line consists of all purpose cleaners, cleaner/degreasers, glass cleaners, hard surface floor cleaners and vehicle and parts rinses.

In addition to all eco-friendly items being searchable on mscdirect.com, the company has created an eco-friendly section where customers can learn more about these types of products. Types of products available include green cleaners and fluids, green-seal certified, conservation, renewable energy source, Energy Star, NEMA premium, recycled products and low VOC (volatile organic compounds).

“Feedback from our customers prompted us to take action with this initiative,” says Erik Gershwind, senior vice president of product and marketing at MSC Industrial Direct in Melville, N.Y. in a company statement. “It was evident that we needed to develop a better solution for identifying and providing environmentally friendly items for our customers. As a result, our goal is to offer a broad range of products that allow customers to maintain a healthy workplace, reduce energy, resource use and waste and assist in the prevention of ozone depletion.”
