WHAT IT MEANS: Keep it on the ground when you can. With jet fuel prices skyrocketing up to nearly $4/gallon, the surcharges for air shipments are booming while both UPS and FedEx have their ground fuel surcharges at 9.5%.

WHAT IT MEANS: Analyst Ed Wolfe points out that despite the massive reduction in its fleet, JB Hunt's utlilization rates measured in miles/truck declined 5.7% in the second quarter, indicating the depth of the truckload demand decline.
