HP releases new laptop for business travelers

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Hewlett Packard announced the launch of three EliteBook models, which the computer manufacturer says are its lightest and smallest laptops to date. All three EliteBook models sport optical drives, which are more durable than traditional hard drive, and also have low-voltage processors to maximize battery life. The laptops are designed to be thin and light—with screens only about 12 inches—while also durable enough to endure drops without component damage or compromised data. HP hopes that these small laptops will appeal to the business travelers as computers that are easier to take on the road.
Whether or not buyers consider ease-of-transport a top priority in procuring laptops is another matter, though. Senior procurement specialist for the Judicial Council of California Bill Hardin says weight isn't much a factor when he buys laptops. "Most people with laptops have docking stations at their desk so they use them both in the office and on the road," he says, though he also notes that frequent global travelers might have a different priority set altogether.
